EAT RIGHT, GET TIGHT

Nutrition is not low-fat, nor is it low-calorie. It isn't synonymous with being hungry or feeling deprived. Nutrition is providing your body with real, whole foods so that you are consistently satisfied and energized... and of course allowing yourself to indulge every now and then without feeling guilty. Proper nutrition is critical to any successful weight-loss, maintenance, or fitness program. 

 



Meal Prep

As a busy mom, I am a huge advocate of meal prep; either doing it yourself for a couple of hours on a Sunday, or ordering through a meal prep service. Most meal prep companies will list out macro nutrition on their labels, and almost all are servin' up fresh (never frozen) meals without the added preservatives and other junk. 

Prepared meals are more likely to be properly macronutrient balanced, which leaves you feeling fuller, longer. But the biggest plus, is that they're easy. Grab, heat-up, and go. Meal prep is ideal for anyone who is short on time and is trying to follow a healthier diet. Proper planning leads to a much higher rate of success.

Most meal prep companies only deliver locally, though some do ship to surrounding states. Find one in your area that you like best give it a try.

Tracking Foods

The best way to know what you're consuming is to track your foods! You'd be surprised at what you're actually taking in each day versus what you think you do. This helps to establish where you are currently, versus where you want to go. Use a macro calculator to figure out a proper balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats for your body type & goals, and begin tracking. Diet is 80% of the equation, so this is not an area to skip out on!

I have used MyFitnessPal religiously for years. I haven't found a better app that even comes in at a close second. And yes, I track every day, BUT starting anywhere is better than never starting. 

 

Quick & Easy 

While I am a chef by Z-E-R-O sense of the word, I can pull together some lean and mean snacks throughout the day that fit most anybody's macros (follow along on my Instagram stories for ideas).  They won't always (ok, ever) be picture perfect images and 9 times out of 10 I eat out of plastic containers while on the go, but they're quick and easy and well-balanced.

MACRO CALCULATOR

There are a lot of macro calculators out there if you're just getting started and want to establish a baseline. Remember, your macros will not be the same as your boyfriends or even your best friend's. Your height, weight, activity level, body type, GOALS, etc. all play a role in determining the correct macro balance for you. If you are super serious about getting your macros in shape, hire a nutrition coach. But if you aren't quite ready to take that step yet, give this calculator a try (it's one of the better ones I've found and also provides some guidance in the instructions). My macros change constantly, and yours might too! Establish a baseline, track your foods, and give your body time to adjust before making any big changes though. Macros are not an exact science, but take time and patience to perfect along your fitness journey.
